
Hiraeth
This game is a final-year project for a group of students from NAD-UQAC. They had the choice between creating a video or developing a game, and since they had no programming skills, I offered to help them make their game. The project spans one year, from April 2024 to April 2025. We managed to create a vertical slice by December 2024 (see the video below).
This project allows me to gain experience working on a large-scale production, as more than twenty people have contributed to it. I have learned to collaborate within a team of highly diverse profiles and have also taken on the role of Lead Programmer. The project is being developed in Unreal, further enhancing my experience with this game engine. Here is the pitch :
Lost between two worlds, can you find where you belong? A small mixed creature only seeks to be unconditionally welcomed, but the pressures of a false choice fracture its bicultural world. Accompany her on her quest and help her use her cultural connections to overcome her fears. HIRAETH is a metroïdvania game driven by an allegorical narrative about the experience of second-generation immigrants. Follow your intuition and navigate the two worlds that make up you by completing at your own pace the puzzles blocking your way.
